List of Handy Items You Need for Packing and Moving
Before moving house, it’s handy to have a moving checklist. This checklist – or checklists – may include everything from what you need to pack in which order, items for an essentials box, and general contact information for moving day. However, another wise list to make well in advance of moving is a list of handy items you may need for the packing and moving process. These may be general items you already own and merely need to gather in order to get started, or they may be specific additional items you need to go out and buy in order to make your life easier. Here are a few handy moving items to get you started.
Keeping track
-notebook
-pen
-address book
Right from the beginning, keep notes on everything from the utility companies to the name of the estate agent who showed you the home. Keep their information and any details, no matter how small, in a notebook or address book. You can never make too many notes and something that may seem insignificant at first may be important later down the line as the moving process continues and develops.
Keep a pen and notepad by your home phone, work phone, one by your bed and carry another around with you. This means, no matter what time of day, you can note down any details you may not remember, or, even if you think you will remember them, note them down anyway for your own peace of mind. Making notes gives you the power of being able to flip back through the pages and compare.
Packing
-bubble wrap
-tape
-newspaper
-cardboard boxes
-pens
-blankets
-plastic sandwich bags
-plastic covers
These handy packing items will become your best friends when it comes to packing when moving house. Wrap any delicate items in the bubble wrap and secure them with tape. Pack them in the clearly labelled cardboard boxes with the heavier items at the bottom of the box and the lighter ones on top. Stuff newspaper between them to stop them from bumping against each other. Be space-efficient and make sure the box is secure before moving on.
Larger items of furniture should be dismantled and the large parts protected by blankets. The smaller parts should be kept in the smaller, clearly labelled clear bags and kept in the same box as the tools you need to rebuild the furniture. This will make life a lot easier when it comes to unpacking at the other end.
Large pieces of upholstery and fabric should be covered in plastic to prevent dust and snagging. This includes sofas, bed linen and cushions.
Moving day
-snacks and drinks
-medication
-change of clothes
-toilet roll
-towels
-shower gel/bubble bath
-toothbrushes and toothpaste
-pyjamas
-phone chargers
All these items are handy to have in an essentials box, which you may want to carry with you or have packed last into the removal van in case of emergencies. It includes everything you may need upon arrival when moving house that you may not want to hunt through hundreds of boxes for. It allows you to relax a little, knowing that you have your essentials to hand if needs be and that you don’t have to unpack as soon as you arrive. Sometimes, just knowing you can have something to eat, a warm shower and some clean pyjamas waiting for you can give you peace of mind in the whirlwind that is moving day.
